According to league sources, the Warriors spoke with former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham recently, Slater said. That is not anticipated to happen. However, it is a clue that the Warriors are eager to bring on a high-profile assistant, and there are hints that they are looking to hire a former player or head coach to take on the position.

Golden State may be searching for a replacement for top assistant Kenny Atkinson, who could leave the team to take a head coaching position in the league as the favorite to join the Cleveland Cavaliers as J.B. Bickerstaff’s replacement. Ham might be a good fit for the position.

Ham would have made a wise choice to join one of the league’s top coaching staffs, with Kerr at the helm, so he can pick up skills from the finest in the business and possibly land another head coaching position down the road.
