According to recent claims from two insiders, the Cleveland Cavaliers are willing to sell Donovan Mitchell if he declines to sign a contract extension this summer.
If Mitchell rejects an agreement for up to four years and $208 million, the Cavaliers will trade him before the 2019–20 season, according to reports from Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com and veteran NBA insider Marc Stein. According to Stein, “They have no intention of starting the 2024–25 season with Mitchell as he approaches his free agent year.”

Pluto: “I’ve been informed that the Cavs will either move him or sign him to an extension this summer. When Mitchell enters his free agent year in 2024–25, they have no intention of starting the season with him.
However, the Cavaliers are still optimistic that they can re-sign Mitchell should they be granted permission to start contract talks following the Finals. At a press conference on Friday, Cavs general manager Koby Altman expressed optimism to reporters about obtaining a long-term commitment from Mitchell.
Stein claims that Cleveland was driven to replace head coach J.B. Bickerstaff in order to increase their chances of keeping Mitchell.
