AC Milan will now look to name their next manager as quickly as possible after bidding Stefano Pioli farewell last weekend. A report has indicated that a deal could be completed soon.
The game this past weekend was poignant as it was an opportunity to honor Simon Kjaer, Olivier Giroud, and Pioli and commemorate their time spent with the Rossoneri. Milan, though, is impatient, especially because the summer mercato is about to open.
Despite doing a thorough assessment of all of their possibilities, Paulo Fonseca appears to have emerged as the winner. The Portuguese coach constructed Lille’s team on young foundations, leading them to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1.
According to rumors on Calciomercato.com, the club chose him for a number of reasons, and they are currently working to finalize the transfer. The terms of the contract are the sole thing separating the manager and the club.
There will be an offer for a three-year contract, but it is unclear if it will be given straight away or over the course of two years with a third option. With a contract worth approximately €3 million a season, Fonseca is not expected to steer the team into the post-Pioli era.
