The West Ham United players were called “idiots” by Roy Keane after their 5-0 loss to Chelsea last week.
Following the Hammers’ crushing defeat in their most recent match, the club announced that David Moyes will be departing at the conclusion of his contract this summer.
On Saturday, May 11, the manager will play his farewell home game against Luton. Gary Neville stated on the Stick to Football podcast on May 10 that he anticipates the manager receiving a standing ovation.
He predicted that the players will be game. “I think they’ll give him an amazing reception,” he added.
However, Keane cut him off and questioned the team after their Stamford Bridge performance as a result.
And last week, why weren’t the players up for it? He stated. “What went wrong last week? The players will be ready for it again next week.”
Neville subsequently provided clarification and defended his remarks.
“I’m not saying I support West Ham’s players; I’m just saying I believe there will be a thank you kind of atmosphere.”
However, Keane resumed his attack and called the players “a joke.”
“Why weren’t they grateful to him last week? The players astound me,” he remarked.
Forget about last week; we’ll be game for it this week. Fools.
Officially, West Ham players are a joke. They never win anything because “we turn up when we want” and “we need a new manager.”
Although Roy Keane is right, he is as usual criticizing West Ham.
The West Ham players haven’t given very strong performances in recent weeks, and this is due in large part to the crushing defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.
However, the players’ display against Chelsea was abhorrent, and they gave no indication that they were playing for the manager or the badge.
Although Moyes’ departure was always anticipated, it appears that the club decided to make the announcement before his last home game as manager in response to the setback.
Keane is correct that the players in especially should have been doing that regardless, purely out of professionalism, but that should encourage the players and fans to give it their all as a thank you.
Nobody will find it difficult to see the difference in effort, and that is what will irritate them all. However, Keane speaks without fully considering what he is saying, which usually results in him overstating the situation.
Aside from that, Andy Dunn has called West Ham a classless club following their outward pursuit of Julen Lopetegui.
