The starting inside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers had a positive checkup.
ORLANDO — Head coach Mike Tomlin stated during his media availability at the NFL Meetings that the Pittsburgh Steelers received a “favorable checkup” on inside linebacker Cole Holcomb. As they get closer to OTAs and mini camp, the inside linebacker, who underwent ACL surgery, looks to be recovering nicely.
In Week 9 of the 2023 season, Holcomb was injured while attempting to tackle Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. A few days later, he had ACL surgery, and ever since, he has been healing and rehabilitating with the goal of making a comeback in 2024.
Tomlin stated, “He just had a checkup a few weeks ago, and it went well. However, I don’t have any information regarding the calendar or levels of availability, so I’d be speculating when I think we are still on decent ways out.”
The 24-year-old Patrick Queen, a former Baltimore Raven, has joined the Steelers, joining Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, and Mark Robinson. The hope for Pittsburgh is that Holcomb returns in time for the season, allowing them to roll out he, Queen and Roberts as the rotating starters.
Holcomb had a career-high 54 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and two passes defensed before his injury. He has two years remaining on his current deal and will turn 28 in the 2024 season.
