Giovani Lo Celso, a midfielder for Tottenham, is reportedly considering his options in North London and may “push for an exit” this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
Under Ange Postecoglou, the 28-year-old has been little more than a bit part player this season, starting just four Premier League games but contributing two goals and two assists when called upon.
Although the Argentina international is reportedly unhappy about his lack of playing time in the league this year, there have also been rumors that Spurs are eager to start unexpected contract talks to keep him [Football Insider, 3 May].
Hutton anticipates that Lo Celso will be enticed by the Lilywhites’ project under Postecoglou, but that he will feel alienated in North London and pursue a transfer this summer.
“I really just don’t see him being able to play football every week, so as a player, is it basically going to come down to what are your options? I think everyone wants to play football.”
I believe that he would consider his choices to travel to another location where he believes he will be able to acquire the necessary game time.
Indeed, Tottenham has adopted a new attitude and mentality under its new manager, and they play an exciting kind of football. He will undoubtedly want to be a part of that.
However, you feel like an outsider if you don’t play frequently, and I believe that’s how he feels right now. If it were me, I would be considering my choices because he doesn’t get the amount of playing time he desires.
“Yes, it would be nice to know that Tottenham wants you to play there, but come summertime, I would be considering all of my options as he seems to be more of a squad player than a starter.”

With Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr starting most Premier League games, Postecoglou has a pretty stable midfield at Spurs. James Maddison is usually preferred to play in the number 10 position.
That gives Lo Celso very little opportunity to interject himself into the situation. This term, he has wowed both players and commentators with his possession skills, but Postecoglou doesn’t seem to be a fan for whatever reason.
It appears quite unlikely that the 28-year-old will be eager to sign a contract until something radically changes in the final weeks of the season and he starts to play every week.
Rather, it seems nearly unchangeable. It’s possible that Lo Celso will only play two more Tottenham games.
