Spurs are having their worst season in twenty years.
Despite four straight losses, Tottenham captain Heung-min Son has maintained that the team is still on course and expressed optimism that the group will get stronger as a result of their losing run.
Spurs’ awful week culminated in a 4-2 loss to Liverpool on Sunday. Earlier in April, they were blasted 4-0 at Newcastle, and they had also lost to Arsenal and Chelsea, two rivals in London.
The streak has almost eliminated their chances of finishing in the top four and raised questions about Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Son, however, was encouraged by their performance. Son scored Spurs’ second goal at Anfield as they attempted a fruitless comeback from a 4-0 deficit.
We tried to play, especially in challenging situations, and it was much better than against Chelsea,” the Korean added.
“They are undoubtedly a very formidable team, but I felt we played excellently, particularly in the first half before we gave up. It was a difficult outcome because, naturally, you attempt to catch up and play riskier when you concede a goal.
Look, we need to stick together when things become rough. We have a tremendous opportunity to strengthen and tighten up. The four games have been extremely difficult, and their combination into one month makes them appear even more difficult. But we’ll fight until the end. But still, it was a tough, tough afternoon.
When you consider that everyone was happy and there was no pressure in the beginning of the season when we were playing well. However, this is the moment when everyone needs to take charge and continue with our goals.
As I’ve already stated, now is the perfect time and chance to unite and become even stronger. It’s all simple when things are going smoothly. However, everyone needs to pull together and support one another during trying times.”
Everyone aspires to compete in the Champions League, therefore we must put up our best effort.
HEUNG-MIN SON
When asked if Spurs are still headed in the right direction under Postecoglou, Son responded, “Yes.”
It was a very disappointing game that we did not want to play on Thursday [against Chelsea]. However, the outcome versus Liverpool was rather disappointing, but I believe we’re headed in the right direction.
Remember that this is the manager’s first season in charge and that we have new players joining the Premier League team. Please understand that while it is extremely frustrating to lose four games, we must accept the loss and the outcome, put in the necessary effort, and improve.”
With a game remaining against Unai Emery’s team, Spurs trail fourth-place Aston Villa by seven points. However, Son acknowledges that they will require “magical” events to occur in the final stretch if they are to compete in the Champions League the following year.
“Everyone wants to play in the Champions League but there’s three games to go, we have to give everything,” he stated.
“We have no idea what will transpire. Sometimes football is a magical game. We continue to have faith in our abilities, strive to concentrate during each of our last three games, and give it our all.”
