According to ANGE POSTECOGLOU, Tottenham does not have a set-piece problem.
Two of Spurs’ goals in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal at home came from set pieces, bringing their total amount of goals surrendered in Premier League games from set pieces—aside from penalties—to 14.
After goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario struggled in games against Manchester and Everton earlier this year, it has become a talking point at Tottenham in recent months.
“I’ve answered this question and I don’t think it satisfies people, but no, I don’t see it as an issue,” Postecoglou stated prior to today’s trip to Chelsea.
We work on it in addition to everything else in our game. In terms of the team we’re growing, there are now many more critical things we need to focus on.
“It’s possible—and something that many would like to believe—that football is very prescriptive. This tablet will help you feel better because you have a sickness. I never thought that to be true.
Creating an environment and a football style that can win things has always been my goal. I have never followed a set of rules when working, and I won’t be doing so now.
Vicario, the goalkeeper for Spurs, has had a fantastic season since joining the team from Empoli in June, but he has also been the subject of a lot of TV commentary due to his set-piece difficulties.
“I think he has seen it as a challenge,” continued Postecoglou, “and again, it is something even I am struggling with.” There were a few instances in last night’s Champions League that they went in on the keeper and it was a foul right immediately.
“I’m not sure. I find it to be an odd one. We’ve made an effort to clarify things, but I don’t think we’ve succeeded.
All he has to do is rise to the challenge, and he is determined to do so. And I have no doubt that he will since I am aware of his mindset, which focuses on finding solutions rather than justifications. He’ll carry that out.
Ben Davies (calf) and Timo Werner (hamstring) will miss Tottenham’s match against Stamford Bridge.
Both of them suffered injuries during the Arsenal loss, and they won’t be able to play again this season. Werner may not play again, though Spurs still have the option to make his RB Leipzig loan permanent.
In response to further speculation about Werner’s future yesterday, Postecoglou sent a bold message about Tottenham’s advancement during his first season in
I’ve experienced everything. Postecoglou jokingly said, “If I were playing bingo, I would have called it a few weeks ago.”
We’ve got some excellent football, some horrible football, good starts, poor starts, early and late conceded, late scores, and set pieces that go badly. That’s just a fact of life for us.
However, I give the impression that it has been a true fight in that. I don’t believe there has been much of a struggle.
“I continue to witness genuine belief in this group. Even on Sunday, with a 3-0 deficit at halftime, things could have easily turned out differently, but they didn’t.
“Everything that people view as problems for us right now are not at the top of my list, and I appreciate the spirit this group exhibits in the face of hardship.
Establishing a football club culture and winning football tactics is at the top of my priority list. We’re headed in that direction.
Up to 14 players are expected to be sidelined for tonight’s match at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea’s medical and coaching staff attempt to determine why the team has sustained so many injuries this season, according to Mauricio Pochettino.
The most recent additions to the roster after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, in which Pochettino was compelled to start five academy graduates who are 20 years of age or younger, are defenders Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi.
