The Cleveland Browns have been a very active team in the NFL Draft over the last four years, either using their draft inventory to obtain additional selections or higher picks, or dealing draft picks for veteran players.

Those actions were planned and executed by Browns general manager Andrew Berry.

However, this was Berry’s first NFL Draft in which Cleveland did not make a trade, meaning the team had to utilize all six picks on players who were originally selected by Cleveland when it entered the draft.

During the annual draft process last week, Berry said in a recent interview with the “Cleveland Browns Daily” Podcast that the team looked for trade partners for transactions that fell through.

We would have loved to convert six picks into a few more, whether they were present or future, Berry said. “We hoped going into the weekend that opportunities would become available to us that didn’t,” Berry said.

In his opening remarks, host Nathan Zegura alluded to Berry’s previous week’s response to the Browns general manager, implying that Berry would have the team make the most use of its resources in a successful draft.

In response to the lost trade opportunities, Berry downplayed his feelings, stating that “sometimes, the ball bounces that way.”

The general manager also mentioned that the Cleveland coaches are pleased with the guys the team drafted and that the timing of the deals was off.
