While they get ready for the 2024 NFL season, it doesn’t seem like Kenny Pickett’s former teammates are upset about his departure after a turbulent stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a comparison to Russell Wilson, Jaylen Warren has made it very evident how he feels about Kenny Pickett. He implies that Pickett will not be missed at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Warren recently made an appearance for a live NFL Draft episode on Cameron Hayward’s podcast, Not Just Football with Cam Heyward. The running back was asked to contrast Pickett’s presence with those of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields throughout the conversation.
Warren was frank in his assessment of how Wilson’s and Fields’ attitudes in Pittsburgh stood in sharp contrast to Pickett’s. “Oh it’s a night and day difference from last year, the leadership speaks volumes,” he said.
The 25-year-old’s account of Pickett’s actions is consistent with prior accounts of the quarterback’s behavior when private. After Pickett allegedly declined to play in the Steelers’ 30-20 victory over the Seattle Seahawks despite being given the all-clear medically, tensions between the two teams reportedly erupted.
Pickett retorted that the coaching staff didn’t think he was ready to play. When Wilson was signed by the Steelers to a one-year contract following his release by the Denver Broncos, the situation appeared to have reached a breaking point.
The Steelers traded Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for draft compensation after Wilson was acquired from the Broncos. The move is thought to have been motivated by Pickett’s handling of Wilson’s entrance.
