Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks is reportedly interested in trading with the San Antonio Spurs.
For the All-Star guard, the rebuilding Western Conference team is one of the few destinations that makes reasonable sense. Victor Wembanyama might be paired with Young to help mask his defensive shortcomings.
Kurt Helin of NBC Sports reports that the Spurs do not believe Young is the best player to take the role of their exceptional big man.

League sources have advised NBC Sports not to place a wager on that occurring since San Antonio believes Young won’t work well with Wembanyama in the long run. If Dejounte Murray of the Hawks is available, the Spurs might be more interested in signing him.”
This summer, Young’s future with the Hawks will be a major talking point. According to reports, the mediocre Eastern Conference team has come to terms with the fact that it will have to part ways with either Dejounte Murray or Young.
San Antonio can make a strong trade offer for the Hawks’ best player since they have the youthful talent and draft picks. However, it doesn’t seem like this is going to be a viable choice. Young’s future thus appears to be more uncertain than it has ever been.
As stated by Marc Stein in a recent SteinLine newsletter, it is anticipated that the Hawks would let go of Young this summer instead of Murray.
In many parts of the league, there is a growing perception that Atlanta would really prefer to shop Young, according to Stein.
There have been rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in signing Young. Beyond the Purple and Gold, though, it’s hard to predict where a sensible trading partner may appear. Atlanta has time to turn around. It may decide to let Murray go. Alternatively, it may opt to extend the guard pairing for an additional season.
The Hawks front staff will need to act quickly, whichever course of action they choose. They cannot afford to have Young, who is disillusioned, on their team come season one. The franchise is in for an eventful summer.
