Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness recently talked about Jose Mourinho’s time at Tottenham Hotspur, expressing skepticism about Mourinho’s relationship with chairman Daniel Levy and astonishment at his decision to join the team.
Speaking with Simon Jordan on the most recent episode of Simon & Souness, the two emphasized Levy’s achievements as the club’s manager, including the construction of the stadium and stable finances.
They did, however, draw attention to the absence of awards and emphasized how crucial it was for Levy’s plan to be balanced.
They discussed possible expectations and management style incompatibilities as they dug into the relationships between Levy and well-known managers like Mourinho and Antonio Conte. Jordan referred to Levy’s selection of Mourinho and Conte as “marriage made in hell” due to his surprise.
Jordan acknowledged that Levy was a shrewd businessman, but questioned if Mourinho was the best choice for Tottenham considering their divergent spending ideologies and personalities. He also expressed his worries about Conte’s behavior while he was a member of the team.
“Yes, I do. He is undoubtedly a shrewd operator.
That £1.4 billion stadium you have there proves he’s a shrewd businessman. With a few noteworthy outliers, your team is the most lucrative in all of football and the club has turned a profit each year since Daniel joined.
“He knows he needs to strike the right balance, but the issue is that he has an empty trophy cabinet.”
