Paul Robinson, a former goalie for Tottenham, gave his opinions on the team’s pursuit of Ben Johnson.
In preparation for the upcoming campaign, Tottenham Hotspur is trying to bolster their defense. Because Ange Postecoglou believes his team lacks defensive depth, they have been searching for players who can support them.
Ben Johnson of West Ham United has been connected to the North London club. While the 24-year-old is versatile and can feature anywhere in defence, Robinson is not convinced with the idea. He feels Johnson will not be able to break into Spurs’ first team. With Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie fully fit, the versatile defender is unlikely to start.
“I’m not sure he takes Spurs to the next level where they want to get to,” Paul Robinson told Tottenham News. “A deal between Spurs and West Ham it may not go down too well with the fans.” To win over many of the supporters, he would need to start strong.
Put another way, I believe he would be a valuable addition to the team, but I don’t believe he would immediately affect the starting lineup.
Robinson believes that the 24-year-old will need to make an immediate impression on the Spurs supporters as they may not be fond of his arrival. More significantly, the former Tottenham goalie thinks Johnson won’t assist the team in achieving their aimed.
He will undoubtedly strengthen their team by giving their defense more depth, but his impact on the team won’t be felt right away.
Although the Hammers defender won’t make a significant difference in Tottenham’s starting lineup, his arrival might provide Postecoglou additional choices. Johnson is a free agent in the summer, the Spurs may view this as a fantastic chance to bolster their roster.
