Sandro, a former midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, turned down a transfer to Manchester City because he was a fan of the North London team.
After a year without a club, Sandro, a former Brazilian defensive midfielder who had played his greatest years at Tottenham, decided to hang up his boots last summer.
He came from Internacional to join the North London club back in the summer of 2010. Before departing in 2014, the 35-year-old enjoyed a successful four-year tenure at the English club.
He made appearances in 106 games while playing for the North London team, even helping to score seven goals.
During his tenure with Spurs, the former Brazil international was at the top of his game. Unfortunately, his career didn’t turn out the way he had hoped, and he departed Spurs as a result of his troubles with injuries.
Sandro, however, recently disclosed that he turned down the chance to play for Manchester City at the height of his career “out of love” for Tottenham. He didn’t want to sever ties with the supporters of the London team.
Tottenham made bids for Sandro to go.
In an interview with Gianluca di Marzio regarding his professional background, the 35-year-old disclosed the prospects that followed Spurs’ inaugural Champions League season in 2010–11.
“It was an incredible game that we won 1-0, with Peter Crouch scoring the game-winning goal,” Sandro remarked. Then, since it was my first time playing in the Champions League, it was a memorable evening for me. Heurelho Gomes, our goalie, was outstanding that night, as I recall.
He was always there and quick to reply when you needed him. It was a historic evening. What if one of the upcoming years I could visit Milan? Manchester City, Napoli, and Milan all wanted me. In my prime, I turned down numerous teams because I was so passionate about Tottenham.
The 35-year-old defensive midfielder turned down a move to several clubs because he was so passionate about Tottenham, even though he had the chance to play for City. To him, the North London club offered far more than what other clubs had to offer.
