The kind of performances that Sharks standout Aphelele Fassi is putting forth will put him back on the radar for the Springbok selection.

Though the gifted utility back has only appeared in three Test matches for the Springboks in his career, Aphelele Fassi has long been considered one of the most gifted players in South African rugby.

Fassi last participated in an international match against Wales in 2022, however he started both of the Springboks’ 2021 wing starts and scored a try in each.

Even though Fassi plays fullback for the Sharks most of the time at the domestic level, he was introduced to the international scene playing the less common position out wide.

At the age of 26, Fassi should have many more Test caps under his belt by now, given how well regarded he has been since he was a young player.

It has been said recently that the Springbok coaches want to see more defense consistency from Fassi in order to view him as a more complete player who deserves to be considered for national team selections.

After being passed over for this year’s first Springbok alignment camp, Fassi has gone on to provide performance after performance that is truly remarkable.

Fassi won the Man of the Match award just last weekend when the Sharks defeated Edinburgh in a thrilling game in which he both scored and manufactured a spectacular try.
