After Guglielmo Vicario, a standout goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, made his debut for Italy last month, former AC Milan and Fiorentina goalkeeper Giovanni Galli voiced his happiness.

During his appearance as a guest on Rai Radio 1’s Radio Anch’io Sport, Galli discussed a variety of subjects, including the 27-year-old’s arduous path to fame. TuttoMercatoWeb relays his remarks.

Vicario’s excellent performances for Empoli the previous season persuaded Tottenham to spend money to acquire his services prior to the start of the current campaign.

The goalie has started each of Spurs’ league games and has so far shown promise. Although he was called up for the first time in September 2022, he was unable to play for the Azzurri until March 24th.

Vicario attended Udinese’s academy and spent time in the lower divisions before settling at Empoli at the beginning of the 2021–2022 season and becoming a regular in the top flight.

Galli thinks the Tottenham goalkeeper had a difficult journey to the top.

Vicario declared, “I’m happy, I recognize that Donnarumma is a great goalkeeper,” following his debut for the national team. But my heart opens up when I witness Vicario’s grace, charisma, and physique.

“Vicario is a really good figure; he pleases the eye and is elegant, but Donnarumma is imposing and blocks your view of the goal behind.” I’m glad for him.

By taking the Via Crucis, Vicario reached Serie A and blue [Italy] if Donnarumma had a highway in front of him. He deserved to be called up and make his national team debut because he endured so much suffering.

Vicario has played in 31 games for Spurs this season, giving up 44 goals while maintaining seven clean sheets.
