In the midst of rumors of Saudi Arabian interest, a Sky Sports reporter has updated fans on Son Heung-min’s future at Tottenham, and a report suggests Spurs chairman Daniel Levy took a big gamble.

When his time in north London comes to an end, Son, 31, will go down as one of the greatest Tottenham players of all time. The South Korean star, who is currently the team’s captain, and Cliff Jones are tied for sixth place on Spurs’ all-time leading scorers list with 159 goals each.

When Son moved to Liverpool in 2015 after spending just £22 million from Bayer Leverkusen, nobody could have imagined the kind of effect he would go on to have.

Son will only have one year left when the current season ends because his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025.

The fact that Son is one of four prominent Premier League players being linked to moves to the Saudi Pro League further heightens Tottenham’s fears regarding Son’s future.

In addition to Son, other coveted players include Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), and Casemiro (Manchester United).

Football Insider reported earlier in March that negotiations had begun between Son’s team and the Spurs. The report states that Son agreeing to a new contract to prolong his stay in the Premier League is the most likely scenario.

After almost three weeks, those discussions are still going on, according to Sky Sports writer Michael Bridge.

While it’s of slight concern the talks don’t appear to have progressed, it is a positive that the two camps are still huddled around the negotiating table. Yeah, still ongoing,” said Bridge.

“This is a player who, let’s face it, is just brilliant on the field, but a brilliant ambassador and obviously globally, so key to the football club.He’s been a great club captain since taking over from Harry Kane.”

Daniel Levy’s position toward taking Saudi offers

Tottenham would be reluctant in the extreme to lose a player of Son’s calibre, especially after losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich just last summer.

Accordingly, a prior report from Football Insider claimed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is ready to roll the dice and reject any Saudi offer he receives this summer.

That will be music to the ears of many a Tottenham fan. However, it would leave the club open to the prospect of losing Son for nothing 12 months later if a new agreement isn’t thrashed out.
