The Mexican international, who signed a £35 million contract to join West Ham from Ajax last summer, says his previous club made a last-minute decision to renounce the deal, even though he had a jet ready to take him to sign it.
Declan Rice was replaced by the 26-year-old in the center of the West Ham midfield. He made the following statement in an interview with Caliente TV: “In year three [at Ajax], I had to go to Chelsea, the plane was waiting for me at the airport – then Ajax told me, ‘You know what: you’re not going’.”
I am the one who is here and living it, whether or not other people believe it. It doesn’t matter to me. I had one hour till I boarded the plane to sign with Chelsea.
‘You’re not going,’ Ajax informed me. You’re not going anywhere, so what now? You’re not going anywhere.”
Alvarez, who has made 35 appearances for David Moyes’ team so far, has shown promise at the center of West Ham’s midfield.
Chelsea has spent a lot of money revamping its midfield in the last 18 months, even though they were unable to sign Alvarez.
