Tottenham Hotspur could open talk with Rodrigo Bentancur over a new contract before the summer window.
This is in line with Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail, who says that Rodrigo Bentancur’s contract issue would probably shortly be examined by Spurs.
Along with Dejan Kulusevski, Bentancur was acquired from Juventus in January 2021 for an approximate sum of £19 million.
After signing with Antonio Conte, the 26-year-old made an immediate impression in north London and assisted the Italian in finishing in the top four that season.
Due to an ACL injury he sustained in February of last year that prevented him from playing until October, his second season at Spurs was more challenging.
Bentancur, however, has started Spurs’ last three games across all competitions since sustaining an ankle injury on his comeback to the starting lineup against Aston Villa in November.
The Uruguayan scored in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham and Manchester United at Old Trafford and appears to be finally settling into Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Tottenham could offer Bentancur a new deal
Mokbel was asked if the Spurs would consider any new contracts after extending the contracts of Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie this season on The Last Word on Spurs.

Conte signed Bentancur to a contract that expires in 2026 after he was picked up.
The midfield player’s contract is about to enter its last two years, so it wouldn’t be shocking if Spurs were able to lock him down for the long run.
Even though Bentancur has struggled with injuries over the last ten months, he has already shown that his playing style complements Postecoglou’s well. After his performance at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jamie Redknapp called him a “fantastic” potential and said he would make a good Postecoglou midfielder.
Going into the last 18 months of his contract, Spurs would probably want to stay away from him since elite teams would surely be aware of his presence.
