Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney has attracted a lot of interest from top-flight clubs with his performances in the Championship this season.
He has impressed against Premier League opposition in the cup competitions as well and the 21-year-old is reportedly a target for several clubs. Journalist Dean Jones has now revealed on Give Me Sport that Hackney is the talk of the town after his performance against Chelsea and it might not be too long before he leaves the Championship club and moves on to bigger things. Jones added that Tottenham are being regarded as the favourites to sign him. The journalist claims that it is still early days in the transfer race and other clubs could easily challenge Tottenham for his signature.
Hackney is clearly a prodigious young talent with a big future ahead of him, and he could be a quality long-term acquisition for the north London club. Tottenham need another quality defensive midfielder and the 21-year-old could be the ideal alternative to the likes of Yves Bissouma. His arrival would allow Ange Postecoglou to rotate the former Brighton midfielder from time to time. Bissouma is the only specialist defensive midfielder at the club right now and Tottenham need more depth in that position. The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be an attractive proposition for the young midfielder and he will hope that the likes of Tottenham can agree on a fee with Middlesbrough soon.
